Friday January 20th, 2023

Hola a todos,

Hope that everyone had a good week.  I was out the class(but in the school) for a few days working on administrative things so I hope and expect that the students faired out well with Sr. Flores.
Everything will return to normal next week.

MATH
The students have continued to work on two-digit addition as well as rotating through centres reinforcing concepts that we have been learning.  I have started to see progress so please continue to challenge your child with two-digit addition.  We will start Measurement next as well as continuing with numeracy practice.

ENGLISH
In ELA, the students reviewed, edited and finished up their work on their "Day in the Life of _____"
story.  We introduced a few new Daily 5 centres including printing practice, sight word, word families and small reading comprehension pieces.  The students rotated through these centres only two times so far.

SPANISH
In SLA, the students started a unit on Partes de la (Parts of the House).  The worked on short reading comprehension pieces and worked on completing their prepositions of place.

SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES
In Science, the students did an experiment with different materials on absorption.  In Social Studies, the students reviewed understanding of the Tides of the Bay of Fundy and completed an art piece to clarify the coming in and going out of the tide.

Que tengan un buen fin de semana,
Sr. Scott

NOTES FROM THE MUSIC ROOM

We will have our Spring concert in the evening the week of March 20.  Exact date and time are still to be confirmed.    You will be informed in a few weeks when your child will be performing.

Please refer to last week’s update for the lyrics of the songs that your children are working on.

In addition to the songs mentioned last week, I would like to share with you a song that we are all learnin: Un Barquito de Cascara de Nuez (the little nutshell boat).  The link to the Youtube video is below.  For anyone familiar with children’s music from Spain back in the 70s, this is the voice of Miliki (and the cartoon character that’s singing is him as well).  I am teaching the words to the G1-5 students and the kindergarten students will become “familiar” with the song rather than be expected to fully learn the lyrics.

And since you have read this whole message, I would like to share with you a special treat.  I use the website www.musicplayonline.comfor a number of activities with the children.  The CBE has purchased the rights to use this site for us this year.  Unfortunately, it’s not free, so this is a treat for me.  This website has a student access code.  Many of the children are familiar with this site since I used it quite a bit during our COVID days and am still using it from time to time.  Below are the instructions to access the use of the site, which is only to be used by our Dalhousie Students:
