Thursday Post

We had library today! 📖

A reminder that Friday, October 28 is a non-instruction day with no school for all students.

In ELA, we worked on our swim journals. We are working on including 'what, where, when, why, and how' in our journal entries.

During Spanish, we had fun exploring clothing worn in autumn. We also dressed a scarecrow on the Smartboard as a class! We liked how interactive this activity was and how it also used technology.

In Science, the students were super excited to start a new unit called 'Hot and Cold'. We explored which items are hot and cold and created graphic organizers to sort these objects. We also sang and danced to a song about 'Hot n Cold' and had a lot of fun!

During Math, we continued working on addition statements and mental math (up to 20).

In Art, we read "Creepy Carrots" and created carrots with a variety of faces (like 'feliz' or 'emocionado'). We created a bulletin board display with our artwork in our classroom!

Agenda Items:

  • Halloween - With Halloween coming up, students are invited to wear costumes to school on Monday, October 31.  The costumes must be worn the whole day and must be appropriate for school environment meaning no violent or inappropriate content or messaging. Accessories such as swords, guns, knives, weapons etc. should not be brought to school.  As costumes should not impede learning, we ask that no mask even if it’s a half face mask be worn to school.  Those wanting to wear COVID masks are welcome to. Due to dietary restrictions and preferences, no food should be brought to school for sharing purposes.  While well intended, other non-food treats should also be not brought to school (goodie/loot bags).
  • Class Photos & Retakes - Class photos are on November 2nd! Photo retakes are also on November 2nd. School photos retakes were originally scheduled to happen on October 17 & 18 have been rescheduled to November 2 & 3.  If you would like your child to have photo retakes, please email your child's teacher to let them know. Class Photos will also happen on the November 2 for all classes with the exception of the Tuesday/Thursday Kindergarten group whose class photo will be taken on November 3.
  • Sound Kreations - Dalhousie students will have the opportunity to participate in a 6-day dance residency at school. Sound Kreations will be coming to dance with the students on November 14, 15, 16, 17, 21, and 22. Our students will be participating in a program called CubaNYC where a Spanish speaking instructor will focus on teaching the students hip hop and Latin street dance moves. The cost of this residency will be $7.26 per student which can be paid through your MYCBE account.  This fee is in the process of being posted and you should see it in the next couple of weeks. We are excited to get our groove on, ask your child to see the moves they learned at school.
