Friday Post

Ask your child about Sound Kreations and the new dance moves that they are learning!

In Art, students had fun creating a self-portrait titled "Atropando Copos de Nieve" (Catching Snowflakes)! We used soft pastels to create our artwork and practiced our Spanish winter clothing vocabulary (such as bufanda, chaqueta, sueter, guantes and gorro - scarf, jacket, sweater, gloves, and toque). Through this lesson, students learn tips and techniques with soft pastels and they also learnt how to draw from a different perspective (person looking up) . The students did such a wonderful job, and I love how each student put their own unique spin on the final touches!

In Math, we worked on fact families and representing addition statements using manipulatives. We enjoyed the different fact family centers.

In ELA, we had a blast playing Wordle and other games to review long sound vocabulary (long a, o, e, i). Can you figure our which 'long sound' vocabulary is in this Wordle? (hint: it's a word with a long 'e' sound.)

In Spanish, we have been learning about prepositions such as arriba, detras, debajo, a la derecha, a la izquierda. We had fun helping our 'lost kitties' to find their apartments using this vocabulary! Ask us about the movement game we played in class!

In Science, we were excited to use thermometers to measure the temperature of different objects in our classroom! We measured the temperature of our room, a cup of water, our body, and a cup of snow. Ask us which had the coldest (lowest) temperature!

In Social Studies, we have begun to learn about communities in Canada. We explored Nova Scotia and a community called "Meteghan". We are excited to learn more about Nova Scotia!

Agenda Items:

  • Please ensure that you have read the email about the AHS declared outbreak at Dalhousie.  If you have any questions, please email dalhousie@cbe.ab.ca.
  • Thank you to those families who have paid their fees for swimming, Sound Kreations or field trips.  Fees can be paid through your MyCBE account.  Prompt payment is appreciated as any unpaid fees impacts the programming that the school can offer.
  • Our virtual book fair starts today and can be accessed through this link.  Students will have an in-person opportunity to purchase books as well either during the day at library time on November 24 or in the evening from 5-8 on November 24.
  • A reminder that conferences are being held next week on November 24 & 25.  Please see the separate email that was sent for information on how to book.
  • As a reminder around traffic safety, there is no parking or entering the school parking lot at any time. Please also be respectful and mindful of the parking, no stopping and Hug & Go zones around the school.   The Hug & Go Zone is meant for a vehicle to be there for under a minute.  Your child should be able to exit the vehicle independently and have their backpack with them in order to use this area.  The Hug & Go Zone is not meant as a waiting zone for families to pick up their child after school by remaining in their vehicle.    We continue to receive complaints from our neighbors regarding families who park in front of their garage is blocking access as well as reports of near misses. Safety over convenience it is not just a phrase. It needs to be a mindset and continued action. The Calgary Parking Authority as well as the Calgary Police Service will be coming out for education and enforcement. Dalhousie School has no ability or authority to have any in fractions and accompanying fines waived.  Thank you for collectively being conscious about traffic safety for our students, your children and our families.
